While public spaces like corridors and offices often have a functional design only, the crews cabins should have a pleasant and cosy atmosphere as well. Human Factors offers several guidelines to improve the design quality of cabins. It also offers practical information about the way humans perceive space and size. Applying these principles to the design can help for instance to make rooms appear larger than they actually are.

Cabin size can also be optimized physically, for instance by adding unused void spaces to the cabins interior space. The example below shows the effects of utilizing void space, a touch of colour and some simple decorations to enhance a standard cabin arrangement:
